Portfolio Bootcamp allows a wide variety of award-winning professionals in the design and communications industry to review your portfolio. Specialists in graphic design, illustration, photography, website design and other communication art forms will offer objective opinions and helpful advice. The process of review is designed to help you become as marketable post-graduation as possible through the use of constructive praise and criticism.

Jon-Mikel Baileytop

Business Development, Wood Street

Before co-founding Wood Street in 2002, Jon worked in sales, marketing and business development for technology and marketing firms. A popular speaker, he gives seminars on marketing, internet marketing, branding and web and graphic design to chambers of commerce, trade associations and colleges. He has a BFA in Fine Art in Photography from Frostburg State University and still shoots photos for Wood Street clients.

Jeffrey Batsontop

The Eye Catcher

Jeffrey has over 20 years of advertising design experience both in Atlanta and the Metro DC area. He has worked as an art director and creative director on national accounts—Coca-Cola, Delta Airlines, and Woolrich—in addition to regional clients, including the International Spy Museum, Hyatt Regency-Chesapeake Bay and Howard Bank. His recent venture is The Eyecatcher here in Frederick.

Jonathan Boehmantop

Creative Director/Partner, Immersion Active

Jonathan Boehman is a principle partner and creative director for Immersion Active, the Internet Marketing Agency for the Mature Markets. Jonathan holds a degree from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) where he studied art and design, and is currently a web design adjunct professor at the same college. Prior to co-founding Immersion Active he worked in area advertising agencies for 2 years, and has been working in interactive design for 12 years. His company has received over 100 local and national awards for both online campaigns and interactive experiences for such clients as Long Fence, AOPA, Del Webb, Virginia Opera, AARP and the Baltimore Ravens.

Tracy Boydtop

Creative Director, Garbo Design House

Tracy Boyd recently joined Garbo Design House, a studio specializing in publication and print design, as its creative director. Tracy graduated with a Visual Communications degree from the University of Delaware. For 20 years, she has worked along the eastern U.S. as a publication designer for Delaware Today and Washingtonian Magazines, Whittle Communications, and associations, GWSAE and ASEE. She created packaging and promotions for F. Schumacher & Co, a fabric and wallpaper manufacturer in NYC. And prior to joining Garbo, Tracy was the senior designer for the Communications Department at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, designing recruitment catalogs, research and alumni magazines, conference collateral and brochures for the University's six graduate schools. She has received numerous national awards for her publication work.

Kim Dowtop

Kalico Design

Kimberly Dow is the owner and principal of Kalico Design. Kim is an award-winning graphic designer who earned a Bachelor of Arts, Summa Cum Laude, at Salisbury University. Her attention to detail coupled with her creative problem solving skills has produced work recognized by the American Advertising Federation, Graphic Design USA magazine, Marcom Creative Awards, Creativity Awards, Communicator Awards and the Summit Creative Awards.
    Kim also finds creative outlets outside the design studio. She is the co-founder and past artistic director of Equinox Dance Company, an all-adult modern dance troupe in the Western, MD region. She currently serves as their marketing director, as well as a dancer and choreographer.
    Kim is also active in her community, serving on multiple committees and as a past board member for the Greater Frederick Advertising Federation.

Stephanie Engletop

Visual Information Specialist, USDA

Stephanie Engle received her BFA degree from Savannah College of Art and Design after attending both SCAD and The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City. She studied as well in the design management graduate program at Pratt Institute. Stephanie has over a decade of experience producing award-winning work for businesses and institutions including J.Crew catalog, American Express Publishing, New School University and Chermayeff & Geismar, among others. After an eight-year design career in NYC, Stephanie returned to her hometown in West Virginia and in 2004 joined the faculty of Shepherd University as Visiting Assistant Professor of Art in the graphic design concentration. In 2007, she felt called to “harness the power of design in the public interest” and accepted an appointment as a Visual Information Specialist for the federal government. Stephanie now designs for the USDA, and often jokes that she is creating exquisite new cattle brands and is reengineering the shape of the egg. Truth is, she is using her design expertise on a daily basis to advance knowledge for agriculture, the environment, human health & well-being, and communities all across the United States.

Dawn Hachenskitop

Associate Professor of Graphic Design, School of
Art and Art History, James Madison University

Dawn Hachenski is an Associate Professor of Graphic Design at James Madison University and is Principle of Hopscotch Studio, a creative collaborative design firm featuring graphic, interior, architectural and exhibition design. She received her BFA from Eastern Michigan University and her MFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Clients include the DuPont Corporation, Center for American Places at Columbia College Chicago, Harlem Symphony Orchestra in NY and the School of Art and Art History at JMU. Prior to becoming a full time educator, she worked for 8 years in Chicago as a designer for several award-winning firms. While in Chicago, she taught part time at the Illinois Institute of Art and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been showcased in HOW! Magazine and American Corporate Identity, selected for the AIGA Fifty, is placed in permanent collections such as the Newberry Library in Chicago, Yale University, and Rochester Institute of Technology and has been exhibited at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC, among others.

Sue Houghtop

President, Octavo Designs

Sue founded Octavo Designs in April 2000. Since that time, Octavo has become an award-winning graphic design studio receiving both local and national recognition for outstanding design work. Sue creative directs the business with a foundation of over fourteen years of experience in graphic design, pre-press, and the print industry. In 2003, Sue acquired Gecko Media Group, a regional web development and marketing firm, thus elevating the company’s web design presence. Having a fun and creative atmosphere which shows in the studio as well her work, helps give Octavo Designs their creative edge.
   Always eager to give back to the community, Sue has sponsored many activities and volunteered design services for numerous regional non-profit organizations.

Perk Hulltop

Designer, HBP Inc.

Perk Hull has been an award-winning designer with HBP for 30 years. He has worked in different design capacities during this time, as Art director, web designer, and photographer. Perk is a graduate of York Academy of Arts where he majored in Graphic Design. Perk was instrumental in incorporating computer graphics into design and printing applications at HBP. A skilled and motivating instructor, Perk taught Design classes at Hagerstown Business College. Over the years he has won many awards for his design and photography.

Lori Jenkinstop

Art Director, HPB

Lori Jenkins has been an award-winning designer and creative director since 1982. As the Art Director at HBP, Inc. she has inspired and managed the design team for the past 19 years. Lori is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, earning a BS degree in Advertising Design Communications. She has lectured on many diverse topics at Johns Hopkins University, Montgomery College, and at numerous area high schools. She also designs and creates innovative jewelry using metals, fused glass and beads, and markets it in boutiques and local craft shows.

Tobin Lehmantop

Senior Designer, Enforme Interactive

Tobin graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design and Photography. After college he worked for Hirshorn Zuckerman Design Group, a large fast-paced firm outside of DC. Gaining experience with clients such as XM radio, MyerEmco, and Federal Realty, helped craft his understanding of design, the web, and making clients happy. Five years later, that same talent and desire to succeed is what has guided his career path to Enforme Interactive, as a Senior Designer. His duties at Enforme include the creative direction of website and collateral work for clients like AOPA, Elsevier Science, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Healthmark Multimedia, BlueNoise Studios, The Weinberg Center for the Arts, and many more.

Adam Levitontop

Senior Designer, Hood College

Adam Leviton came into the Frederick design scene a year ago when he graduated from Shepherd University and was hired as the Senior Graphic Designer for Hood College. In addition, he teaches graphic and web design at Frederick Community College, and teaches digital art at Hood College. Adam also maintains a small freelance business and has won numerous awards for himself and Hood College. Adam is a versatile designer who studies more of the philosophy and logic behind design as opposed to just technical skills. His methods of teaching tend to open the minds of his students and bring out the best in their designs.

Christina Renshawtop

Principal, text design inc.

Christina started text design in 1990 in Rockville, Maryland. Primarily a print design shop with clients in the DC Metro area, text design has a staff of 3, but works with freelance designers, illustrators, writers and photographers to fill in when needed. Their core clients are non-profit organizations in the arts, healthcare and education sectors. 

Jamie Stuptop

Project Manager & Media Developer, Wood Street

A co-founder of Wood Street, Jamie has more than 10 years of experience designing websites and interactive media. His work ranges from print and marketing collateral design to complex multimedia campaigns. He is proficient in a wide range of design and multimedia software applications and earned his BFA in Graphic Design at Frostburg State University.

Jon Weavertop

Designer, High Rock Studios

Jon Weaver is 1998 graduate from Kutztown University with a BFA in Communication Design. After graduation he entered the professional environment with the firm Icon graphics located in Hagerstown. Two years later he moving to Frederick and began working for Streamline Graphics in Leesburg VA. Many miles of driving each day, and three years more experience, came to an abrupt end with the “dot bomb” period of time and the collapse of that firm. With more than 5 years of experience he ventured into the realm of freelancing and began working for a wide range of clients, doing print and web design, and a spectrum of flash work. Presently Jon is employed with High Rock Studios, and has been with them for over 2 years. He is a senior designer on a staff of 12, an accomplished Flash developer, and part time project manager.

Louanne Welgosstop

Partner/Co-founder, LTD Creative

Louanne Welgoss, partner and co-founder, graduated with a BFA in graphic design from Ohio University. She oversees business development, project planning/coordination, and is also a key contributor to the creative look of many projects. Louanne brings a great enthusiasm and expertise to every
aspect of the studio and is always looking for new ways to grow the business. Seeing the world through the eyes of her imaginative 7-year-old daughter is a constant source of inspiration for Louanne, whose work has been recognized by Folio Magazine, SNAP, and the American Society of Business Press Editors, among others.
